We were pleasantly surprised for the price we had paid - to be honest, we were expecting something grotty but it couldn't have been further from our expectations. What a pleasant surprise!!

Not sure about allowing dogs in all rooms - a few pet-free rooms are advisable for asthma sufferers.

.Food fair and rather expensive. Wine overpriced.

very welcoming staff.Lovely building with 'designer' touches but not out of keeping with the original. Lovely breakfast. greta location with direct access to beach.

Service was excellent, friendly staff, beautiful building, great location right next to the seaside. Very good value for money. Comprehensive full English breakfast. Would stay again.

The food at dinner was a bit experimental, especially the desserts. The service at breakfast was a little slow - we never did get our second pot of coffee.

The style and ambiance of this beautiful house has been retained whilst making it a very welcoming hotel to visit. The breakfast was first class with wonderful sea views from the dining room. The outside terrace and access to the nearby cliff path complemented our stay. We very much look forward to returning to this hotel.

Excellent country house hotel-like staying with a favourite relative. From the moment we walked in we were made very welcome. The staff have managed to achieve the very fine balance between being friendly and remaining professional at all times. The very wide choice of food -much of it locally caught or sourced -was beautifully flavoured and well presented .Breakfast ranged from a traditional full english to eggs royale or benedict with a tasty buffet of cereals, nuts, fruit compote etc.to suit all tastes. The rooms are all different and very clean with complimentary Molton Brown toiletries. The owners are very hands -on and really nice people.Would definately book again.

The location and character of the building, incorporating many late 19th century architectural features. Food quality and presentation in the Vista Bistro was excellent at both dinner and breakfast.

      Service aspects in Vista Bistro.

Top floor room without a lift (Grade 2 listed building) was a problem with the number of stairs needed to locate your room and was not easy for a person with moblilty problems.Bathroom facilities was somewhat dated.

Friendly staff gave us guided tour and history of the building. Fabulous views.

Breakfast was acceptable. Not as good as we had hoped.

The building has some just amazing historical features. Location is one of the best I have stayed at in the UK, just need the great weather to go with it. Breakfast was top class.

Situated within easy walking distance of small town. Opportunity for coastal walks along accessible paths. Dining room and gardens overlook sea with view across to the Isle of Wight. Delicious dinner and excellent choice for breakfast. Drinks slightly pricey. Although I booked as a single traveller I had a delightful spacious bedroom with a large double bed. There was a well stocked hospitality tray. Would certainly return with my husband when visiting the area again.

The wood panelling makes the entrance hall and stairs seem a little dark - likewise the comfortable lounge.

      Location and relaxed nature

The Cooks room 3 gets very hot over night and the ac is very useful. We are used to using our own simmilar ac overnight in the bedroom at home but I found the hotels had an intermitant loud click that I thought came from the vane movement and kept me awake. Also the pump in the cupboard came on and again woke us both. Then at 7.30 the large kitchen extractor below started very loudly! Given the position and shape of the bar, drawing the dark, heavy curtains on the west side made it oppresive and un-inviting. Having to sit in the lounge hearing the Manager obviously apologising at length on the reception phone, I feel is inappropriate and avoidable. Otherwise good two day break location.

Period architecture. Good quality bed linen and pillows.

Breakfast could be improved. No alternative to butter for lactose intolerant clients

Everything! It was extremely comfortable and the staff were friendly but professional. It is in a fabulous location on the beach and the views are amazing. Our room was simply stylish and luxurious.

I was quite disappointed with the evening meal as it seemed to have not been freshly cooked and had been re-heated - I deduced. I wanted the opportunity to feedback to the restaurant staff but no one asked if the meal was ok and I didnt want to bring up the issue and cause a fuss as I was having a lovely break otherwise. My dinner guest was also very disappointed with the dry congealed linguine on her plate which had no sauce.
